Programme Chair, MSC Emerging Media DCU

Delcan Tuite is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication. He has developed and subsequently chaired both the BSc. in Multimedia and the MSc. in Emerging Media. His teaching spans both production and theory. The main areas in which he specialises are sound design, interactive/responsive design for XR, the social effects of ICT, new media studies, programming, usability and design for emerging media forms.

He has supervised PhD research to completion across topics such as the UX for apps for young adults with ID, older adults and social media to salience and narrative in 360 video. He worked on developing the University guideline for practise based PhD research and supervised the first PhD student graduate via a practise based format at DCU.

Declan’s research follows two main strands; responsive media based work which is often blended with and inspired by research grounded in social science/digital anthropology. His current research projects investigate user experience with generative media in enhanced forms such as AR, VR and 360 video. While he has published both journal articles and book chapters, he also produces practise based work that has led him to being invited to exhibit at Brighton Digital Festival, DRHA, ISSTA and Ubimus.
